Calcium and Vitamin D
After all those cravings and snacks I thought I had given what my baby wanted, but that turned out to not be true at all! Even though I was eating a lot more and snacking a lot more it didn’t mean that I had all that I needed for my health and for the baby’s development.
I needed supplements. When I told my dentist about all the snacks and cravings I had, aside from choosing healthier options for my oral health which I mentioned in another blog post (https://mommy.health.blog/tooth-decay/), I needed extra vitamins.
Having a baby was pretty hard on my body. It had to work basically twice as hard now that there’s two people to keep alive. My dentist told me that a lot of calcium will be used for the baby so I really needed calcium supplements and vitamin D to help keep my own teeth healthy and my bones too! Imagine what it’ll look like if my baby saw me with no teeth! That would be a nightmare! And not only that, I would want my baby to have strong bones when they enter the world and explore. Having enough vitamin D and calcium is important for that.
Now, if supplements aren’t your thing you could totally have extra milk or fish or spinach or tofu for that calcium. And if you want vitamin D you could just have a nice walk around the neighbourhood. Remember to put on sunscreen!
